Cheltenham has quietly become one of the UK’s most exciting places to work in tech. With GCHQ on the doorstep and a thriving community of startups, scaleups and established names, the Cheltenham tech ecosystem is genuinely world-class. Hub8 sits at the heart of all of it — and we’ve been building something worth talking about.
This blog is where we document it. The people building companies from our desks. The events that actually spark something. The conversations that don’t fit neatly into a LinkedIn post.
Why now?
We’ve been running Hub8 MX and Hub8 GC for a while now, and one thing keeps happening: great stuff occurs here that never gets written down. A founder lands their first enterprise contract in the phone booth on the ground floor. Two members who’d never met end up co-founding something six weeks after their first coffee. A GCHQ analyst and a startup CEO realise they’re solving the same problem from opposite ends.
None of that makes it onto the website. So we’re fixing that.
What to expect
We’re not going to publish three times a week and fill space with content marketing. When we write something, it’ll be worth reading. That means member stories, honest reflections on what’s working (and what isn’t) in Cheltenham’s tech ecosystem, and occasional deep-dives into the kind of work happening across the Plexal network.
We’ll also be sharing recaps of the Hub8 Connect Series — our monthly events that bring together the people doing the most interesting work in the region. If you haven’t been to one yet, come to the next one.
A community, not a co-working space
The thing that makes Hub8 different isn’t the desks or the coffee or even the location (although being five minutes from GCHQ doesn’t hurt). It’s the 500+ members from 60+ companies who’ve chosen to work here. Engineers, marketers, founders, analysts, researchers — people who could work anywhere, and picked this.
We want this blog to reflect that. Not a brand talking at you, but a community talking to itself. If you’re a member and you’ve got something worth saying, get in touch.
More soon.
